Demolition of the RANGS BHABAN building.

Bangladeshi Army General ERSHED became President of Bangladesh in 1982 a short time after former president Zia RAHMAN was killed in an army coup. Once President, General ERSHED wife, Rowshon, had a 22-story skyscraper (Dhaka’s third tallest building at the time) built near the parliament house at Tejgaon. The construction of the RANGS BHABAN building started in 1986 but once completed her husband had to resigned from power in 1990 and the new government claimed that the building was built without a construction permit and was situated on a planned new road way. After many legal battles demolition started on August 3, 2007 under the supervision of magistrate Emdadul Dastagir of Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha (RAJUK) but stopped for some time when a floor collapsed killing 12 workers.
The demolition contract was given to SIX STAR CORPORATION to finish the work.
The work was completed mid 2009.
